Lando Norris has won the Hungarian Grand Prix after a late charge from Oscar Piastri, a battle which the Briton admits to have left him 'dead.' Speaking after the race Norris said: "We weren't really planning on the one stop at the beginning, but after the first lap was kind of our only option to get back into things."
"But it was tough. The final stint with Oscar catching, I was pushing flat out, so yeah, my voice has gone a little bit."
"Pretty good, rewarding, you know, even more because of that. The perfect result today," added Norris.
Norris didn't believe in the win
After the last round of pitstops, Norris acknowledged he didn't really see the win as being in the cards.
"I didn't think it would get us to win, I thought maybe he would get us at least into second. I knew our pace was good, even in the first stint behind George, I couldn't get past, but the pace was strong."
"So I knew if I just had some clean air and a good push that I could maybe make things work and that's what we did."
"It's always a bit of a gamble, these kind of things. But it also requires no mistakes, good laps, good strategy, all these things. And that's what we had today. So, I'm very happy," Norris said.
Norris highlights McLaren's major milestone and credits Oscar for charge
The title fight draws ever-closer with Norrris bringing the gap down to 9 points. But he doubts momentum is on anyone's side as both are fighting hard.
"It's hardly fought, I think it's hard to say that momentum is on anyone's side but we're fighting hard."
"It's fun, it's tough, but fun racing against with Oscar and great for us as a team."
"Another 1-2, our 200th win actually in Formula 1. Credit to Oscar, I mean he put up a good charge and I just look forward to plenty more of this," Norris concluded.
