Missing Q3 according to Gasly missed opportunity: 'Look who has pole'

Pierre Gasly was the man of qualifying in Q1, but did not make it to Q3. In the end, Haas F1 driver Kevin Magnussen became the man with pole position. Gasly playfully congratulated the Dane, but balks because he preferred to see himself standing there.
Gasly went out first on slick tyres during Q1 on the drying track. It was a gamble and his first lap was a bit slow, but his early switch to the red tyre made him the first driver to have a workable hot tyre. The AlphaTauri driver was thus assured of a spot in Q2, while Ferrari, which moved to the slick tyre very late, made it to Q2 by the heels.

Gasly sees missed opportunity

In Q2, it was done for Gasly. Although the pace of his car was encouraging according to the Frenchman, Gasly sees a missed opportunity. Thus, he told Sky Sports: "Overall it was a positive qualifying and I have to be happy with the laps I did. The pace was there, so it's a little bit of a missed opportunity that we didn't make Q3. Especially when you see who is on pole now."
Gasly has high hopes for Saturday's sprint race and thinks he can still gain some places before the start of Sunday's race. Although Gasly himself would have preferred to be on P1, he could manage to congratulate Magnussen on Twitter. The driver did so by posting a picture of Magnussen with a goat on his head. By that, Gasly probably means that Magnussen is the G.O.A.T. (for a day).
