BBC: 'Mick Schumacher joins Ferrari Academy'

Mick Schumacher, son of Michael Schumacher, has joined the Ferrari Academy, with sources "close to the team" says the BBC.

Schumacher, 19, is about to take on his first season in Formula 2, after winning the Formula 3 world championship last season.

The 19-year-old's deal includes a chance to drive the famous prancing horse car for two tests with Ferrari in 2019, with Mick keen to follow in his father's footsteps.

Michael Schumacher won five of his seven world championships at Scuderia - with the seven-time winner, still not being matched by any other driver.

However, Ferrari would not officially confirm the deal for the young German driver. Scuderia confirmed its interest in Schumacher, but they haven't provided any sort of update since the post-season testing at the Yas Marinas Circuit in Abu Dhabi.

There have been multiple drivers who have made it through the Ferrari Academy; such as most recently, Charles Leclerc, four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel and new Sauber driver, Antonio Giovinazzi.

Leclerc will embark on his first season in a Ferrari in 2019, with the driver's impressive rookie season with Sauber not going unnoticed, where he will partner the much more experienced Vettel.
