Mercedes identify and replace Bottas' faulty parts from the Eifel GP

The issue that forced Valtteri Bottas to retire at the Nurburgring has been found and Mercedes have dealt with it. The electronic problem has been found and causes Bottas and Lewis Hamilton to have to replace a part of the engine.

It was a big disappointment for Bottas at the Nürburgring. The Finn was already behind his teammate, but the gap in championship standings has now only widened. The breakdown was due to an electronic problem in the engine and that cannot be remedied with the old part.

According to Motorsport.com, Mercedes has therefore announced that Control Electronics will be replaced for both Hamilton and Bottas. This is confirmed by a Mercedes spokesman, who states that 'changes have been made to the calibration to prevent a reocurrence'.

Where a new Control Electronics does not penalise Bottas and Hamilton, as they are still within the limits of how many they can use. However, one more change to this and they could face a grid penalty.
