Laurent Mekies has been announced as Christian Horners' successor. The Frenchman faces the challenging task of leading the team that was led by his predecessor for twenty years. The Austrian team's new CEO and team principal seems ready for the challenge. Thursday was Mekies' first day at the Red Bull factory. The Frenchman said he had a good impression of the team from the start: “
I look at this team as most people do: we see the world's best people in what they do. That's what this team is. Even as a competitor, you regard Red Bull Racing as the sharpest team, which has managed to gather the best talent to work together.”
Mekies ready for the challenge at Red Bull Racing
The brand-new team principal of Red Bull Racing continued: “It is a privilege to be part of the team and the focus will be on ensuring all these talented people have everything they need to perform. For they are the very best. We will concentrate on this and make sure the energy of Red Bull flows through the team. We do not underestimate the challenge ahead of us, we need everyone and we're going to tackle this together. I am confident that with everyone's contribution, we can take on this challenge.”
The first race weekend for Mekies as the new team principal of Red Bull Racing will be at Spa-Francorchamps. The Belgian Grand Prix will be held at Spa on the 27th of July. After that, there will be one more race before the summer break. The Hungarian Grand Prix will be held in Budapest. Four weeks later, the Formula 1 season will resume. On the 31st of August, the Dutch Grand Prix will take place at Circuit Zandvoort, Max Verstappen's home race.
Mekies also had a message for Red Bull Racing fans on social media.
