Max Verstappen acknowledged that it's been some time since he finished a meaningful F1 session in first place. The Dutchman secured pole position for Saturday's sprint race in Austin, Texas.
"We had a good day. Sprint quali is always difficult because you do medium, medium and then soft. You never know how much you can push. I'm happy with today. The car was working well all day. Happy to be first, it's been awhile," Verstappen said immediately after qualifying.

However, a sprint qualifying does not make things easy, according to Verstappen. "It's always very hectic. This track is amazing to drive. New tarmac, old tarmac that's bumpy. It's the same for everyone. We'll do the best we can tomorrow in the sprint."
Verstappen is pleased with the result but knows more points will be available on Sunday. Still, Verstappen is keen to try to extend his lead in the World Championship on Saturday. "We'll do the best we can tomorrow in the sprint," Verstappen concluded.
