Marko not impressed with this F1 driver: 'Not penalised for nothing'

Helmut Marko is anything but pleased with Kevin Magnussen's recent performances. The Haas driver is balancing on the brink of suspension after several incidents in a short period of time and not without reason, the Red Bull Racing adviser stresses.

Magnussen - to his own displeasure and not for the first time this Formula 1 season - had been given the task of doing everything possible to keep teammate Nico Hulkenberg within the points. He did so in the sprint race in Miami to the extreme, causing several incidents for which he was penalised each time.

Marko was not impressed by what he saw, he wrote in his analysis for Speedweek.com. "Magnussen did everything in the sprint race to act as a brake pad for his teammate. He not only held off Lewis Hamilton, but also collided with Yuki Tsunoda. I think he exaggerated and he has 10 penalty points for a reason," he noted.

The 80-year-old Austrian thinks the FIA can find a better way to deal with such incidents. "Adjusting the rules and, as Guenther Steiner suggested, imposing a drive through penalty instead of a 10-second time penalty, - so that one driver cannot ruin the race for another - is a possibility in such an extreme case. Although I don't think we should change the rules after every event, because we need stability," Marko said.
