During qualifying for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Red Bull's top advisor Helmut Marko had expected pole position for Max Verstappen on the wet track in the United States. The Austrian points to the reason why Lando Norris is on pole.
"After Q1 and Q2 we actually expected pole position, but in terms of timing it didn’t work out."

After Verstappen’s first runs in qualifying for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Marko had hoped for more, but the reigning world champion ultimately ended up in second place. Verstappen will therefore start alongside Norris on the front row on Sunday.
Marko reacted to Verstappen’s qualifying with Sky Germany. “After Q1 and Q2 we actually expected pole position, but in terms of timing it didn’t work out. We missed the final lap, the one Lando did manage to put in."

Verstappen's reaction to Las Vegas qualifying

The four-time world champion also reacted immediately after qualifying about his own session. Verstappen compared the Las Vegas track to an ice rink and explained that it was extremely difficult to drive on.
Pole position, therefore, went to Norris in Las Vegas. Carlos Sainz completed the top three, and he is set to start directly behind Verstappen.
