Kevin Magnussen has credited his strong start to the season to Haas’ excellent rear grip, and also says behind part of the development process is a reason he is showing some of his potential in the 2018 season.
Magnussen was very highly rated when he was given his debut by McLaren in 2014, and he secured an impressive podium on his debut, finishing second in Melbourne.
However, in recent seasons, his stock has taken somewhat of a dip, with a disappointing year at Renault yielding just two points finishes.
This year he has rekindled some of the form that saw him given his McLaren call, scoring 11 points so far, although it would have been more if it wasn’t for the famous pit stop incident in Australia, which was both Haas drivers retire.
Team mate Romain Grosjean has not scored a single point this year, and Magnussen is comfortable in his car.
“There seems to be this idea that our car understeers but I don’t think it is and I don’t like understeer, I like grip, a lot of grip in the car,” he said. “This car has a good amount of downforce and grip. Particularly rear grip on entry is very consistent.”
