An absolutely disappointing result for Max Verstappen in Austrian GP qualifying, only seventh and unable to chase the front row due to a late yellow flag.
Pierre Gasly’s spin at the start of the straight ruined Verstappen’s chance to set a better time in Q3. With a fresh set of soft tyres still available, Verstappen looked set to secure a spot on the second row, helped by McLaren’s dominant pace.

Verstappen complains of lack of grip during qualifiers

The Dutchman had already expressed frustration earlier in qualifying about a severe lack of grip, saying, “I don’t know what to say anymore. I have no grip at low, medium, or high speeds''.

Yuki Tsunoda also struggled, failing to make it past Q1, and similarly complained about the lack of grip.
