Alexander Albon's retirement on lap 43 reshuffled the strategies heading into the closing stages of the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia, with the Virtual Safety Car initially deployed before the full Safety Car was eventually sent out.
The Thai driver's car was stuck in gear, preventing the marshals from pushing it behind the barriers, which prolonged the neutralisation and ultimately required the Safety Car to be deployed.
All of the frontrunners took advantage of the opportunity to make a virtually free pit stop while retaining their respective positions, with the exception of Oscar Piastri, who pitted a lap later. Hamilton therefore inherited fifth place once again as he continued his pursuit of Isack Hadjar in fourth.
