Reigning world champion Lando Norris has been joined by his potential successor Kimi Antonelli and Susie Wolff, on the TIME100 sports list for 2026. The trio have earned recognition among some of the most influential athletes and sporting figures in the world. However, there was no place on the list for seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton, despite the Ferrari driver's global profile and status as one of the most recognisable figures in motorsport. Four-time champion Max Verstappen has also been left off the list as one of the 100 most influential sports figures in the world.
Norris after winning the 2025 championship, has also made the separate TIME100 list for the most 100 influential people in the world. This list puts Norris alongside world leaders including Donald Trump and Pope Leo XIV and celebrities such as Victoria Beckham, Kate Hudson and Ethan Hawke.
Norris recognised after 2025 championship
For Norris, the recognition comes after establishing himself as one of Formula 1's leading stars. The McLaren driver was narrowly crowned as the 2025 drivers' champion after holding off a late comeback from Verstappen, as well as the challenge brought to him from teammate Oscar Piastri.
Antonelli's inclusion highlights the remarkable impact the Mercedes driver has made in a short period of time. Widely regarded as one of the sport's brightest talents, the Italian has enjoyed a stunning rise in 2026, winning his fifth consecutive race at the Monaco Grand Prix. After just six races he holds a 66 point lead at the top of the standings and is now the strong favourite to succeed Norris, and also become the sport's youngest ever champion.
Meanwhile Wolff, the wife of Mercedes team principal Toto, makes the list thanks to her role as the managing director of F1 Academy - the all-female racing series aimed at developing talent in a sport dominated by men.
The inclusion of both Norris and Antonelli reflects F1's continued growth among global audiences, as they joined the likes of Lionel Messi, LeBron James and Erling Haaland on the sports list.
How the TIME100 list is selected
While Hamilton's omission may surprise many fans, the list focuses on current influence and impact across the sporting landscape rather than simply career achievements.
In a post on how the TIME100 list is chosen, the publication states: "There is no single metric that defines influence. Our selections are led by the stories that are shaping the world each year and the people who write them. Some are well known to many, others only within their fields."
