Aston Martin team boss is very satisfied: 'Shows we're not taking gambles'

Aston Martin have been the surprise of the 2023 season so far. The British racing stable have made great strides in car development, and with the newcomer to the team in Fernando Alonso, this is reflected on the track.
The past few years have been very difficult for the team formerly known as Racing Point. In 2021 and 2022, results were not as hoped for. In 2023, everything changed. The car was improved, and a two-time world champion in the name of Fernando Alonso was brought to the team. Meanwhile, the Spaniard is on four podiums. His teammate Lance Stroll has yet to secure a podium finish.
Team boss Mike Krack is more than happy with the progress his team has made, telling Formula1.com: "It shows that we are not taking gambles, we are not playing the lottery, but we are making choices based on data, based on the results we have – that is also one of the reasons why we can be as consistent."

'Certain circuits will be tricky'

The AMR23 is especially fast in the corners, and this will not always be to the car's advantage. The Luxembourg team boss expects the car to be less competitive on circuits where straight-line speed is important: "I think Monza and Las Vegas, Spa maybe. But there is still time until then, so we can do some developments. I think as a team it’s good, you need to learn how your car behaves, how your car is compared to the competition."
