Key Red Bull figure back in Hungary after missing Silverstone and Spa

The British engineer missed the rounds at Silverstone and, more recently, Spa last week, amid growing talk of a possible exit from the Milton Keynes-based team, where he has spent the past two decades.

As GPblog revealed during the Austrian Grand Prix weekend, Monaghan is interested in taking on a new challenge with Cadillac, where he is understood to be in line for a senior technical role. However, Red Bull is reportedly trying to convince the Briton to stay by offering him an improved salary and a long-term commitment.

A possible departure would mark yet another senior exit from Red Bull, with many of the key figures behind the team's success over the past 15 years already having moved on to pursue new opportunities elsewhere. Most recently, Gianpiero Lambiase is set to leave his role as Max Verstappen's race engineer to join McLaren.

Verstappen's possible departure from Red Bull Racing to McLaren has also been heavily discussed over the recent years. The Dutchman indicated in Belgium that he will give an update when he has something to share.

Sky Sports reporter Ted Kravitz believes the chances of such a transfer are slim, arguing that the reigning world champion has few realistic alternatives if he were to leave Red Bull ahead of the 2027 season.

According to Kravitz, McLaren is the only team that would make sense as a destination, but the Woking-based outfit has little incentive to change its line-up. He pointed to the performances of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, as well as the team's strong internal harmony, as key reasons why Verstappen is unlikely to secure a seat there. As a result, he thinks the logical option for the Dutchman is to remain with Red Bull for the 2027 campaign.
