Former Formula 1 driver Jarno Trulli has also weighed in on Lewis Hamilton’s struggles, analyzing the difficult moment the British driver is facing and trying to understand why the results have been so hard to come by in his first year with Ferrari.
Lewis Hamilton is experiencing a first year at Ferrari quite different from what he had hoped.
After 14 Grands Prix, the seven-time world champion has yet to stand on the podium, although he came close at his home race in Silverstone—only to see Nico Hulkenberg in the Sauber claim his first career podium instead.
The Englishman has also been struggling significantly in qualifying this year, as shown by his double elimination in qualifying at Spa and his exit in Q2 at Budapest, where he set the twelfth fastest time.
In the race, however, there was no comeback like in Belgium, with Hamilton stuck in traffic for most of the race and even coming close to contact with Max Verstappen in an episode that the FIA later investigated but ultimately found no fault with either driver.

Trulli weighs in on Hamilton's difficult period

Speaking openly to Gazzetta dello Sport, former Formula 1 driver Jarno Trulli attempted to uncover the reasons behind the difficult period faced by the seven-time world champion: “Is it his age? The car? Something missing within the team? Or maybe he’s simply reached his limit.''
''It’s so strange—it’s like he’s struggling to stand out. He disappoints in qualifying, performs only slightly better in the race, but never shines. This isn't the Hamilton we know.''
According to the Italian, at the moment Hamilton’s contribution isn’t having much of an impact for Ferrari: ''The truth is, only he knows what’s going through his mind right now. At the moment, it doesn’t seem like Hamilton can contribute much to Ferrari.''
Finally, Trulli added: ''The future is uncertain. Only those who talk to Lewis can truly understand what’s happening to him.”
