IndyCar drivers criticise Formula 1: "They don't want us"

IndyCar drivers stand up for Colton Herta and collectively oppose the FIA's super licence system. Red Bull Racing made an attempt to get Herta into F1, but as he does not have enough points for his superlicence, this does not seem to be going ahead for now.

Rahal reacts vehemently

Many IndyCar drivers think it is unfair that Herta is not allowed to enter Formula 1 because of the lack of super licence points. Graham Rahal lashes out hard at F1 for this, writing the following on Twitter: "F1 is an elitist sport. They don’t want us. Remember that. They want US companies money, they want wealthy US individuals money. But they don’t care about the rest. Always has been that way, always will be."

Besides being fiercely critical of Formula 1, Rahal also takes issue with Herta. Indeed, according to the American, Herta deserves a place in F1, as in Rahal's view he is one of the most talented drivers at the moment. "F1 has had ride buyers for years who don’t hold a candle to CH [Colton Herta]. That is a fact!"

Weird decision by the FIA

Rahal is not the only IndyCar driver to speak up for the 22-year-old Herta. Scott McLaughlin, who himself managed to win three times in 2022, keeps the message short. "Their loss. Kid's a stud." Also Felix Rosenqvist has his say on Twitter: " It's so stupid..."

And for those who want to say that @ColtonHerta didn’t “earn” the right. You’re off base. He’s as talented if not more than the rest. He’s a proven winner. He came to the top, and has done exceptionally well. F1 has had ride buyers for years who don’t hold a candle to CH. FACTS!
