Alex Dunne got to take Lando Norris's McLaren for a spin in FP1 and gave Formula 1 championship leader Oscar Piastri a run for his money. The
first session in Austria is over and there are many notable storylines after the first practice. For instance, Mercedes and Red Bull Racing, with George Russell and Max Verstappen respectively, performed significantly better than McLaren. However, the standout was the impressive performance of McLaren's debutant. Dunne was only 0.069 seconds slower than Piastri.

McLaren, like all other top teams, brought updates to Austria. At the start of the session, the 19-year-old Dunne was driving around Spielberg with measuring equipment, placing him at the bottom of the standings for a while. Dunne made no mistakes in his first F1 session and showed that he definitely has a lot of speed. In addition to his successful session in Formula 1, Dunne also gets to showcase his skills in
Formula 2. The teenager is currently leading the fight for the title in that class, with Richard Verschoor in second place, three points behind.
