After the Mexican Grand Prix extended its contract with Formula 1, it made Imola's future clearer. As there are already 23 confirmed Grands Prix being hosted, Imola's fate seems sealed. Mexico has been the most recent circuit to be confirmed for the 2026 Formula 1 calendar. On Wednesday it was announced they would be remaining on the calendar until 2028. As Las Vegas and Imola are the two current races without a deal, it seems as if Imola will be receiving bad new soon.
Madrid is set to make its Spanish Grand Prix debut in 2026. With that, one race must disappear, as
GPBlog has already confirmed that there will be 24 races during the 2026 season. This means Imola has been left as the odd one out. While the Las Vegas Grand Prix has not secured a contract deal for 2026, they are organised by Formula 1 itself.

How Imola Can Stay in Formula 1
However, no official announcements have been made. The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix sits on the calendar right after the Miami Grand Prix. The race could continue being hosted if Barcelona were to leave the calendar after the switch to Madrid is made.
Imola also has the option to become a rotational track, like Spa-Francorchamps. The Belgian Grand Prix signed a new deal until 2031, but will not be on the calendar in 2028 and 2030. Imola may be able to host their races then.
