It's apparent that Sergey Sirotkin still has a lot of work ahead of him before making his full F1-debut in Australia later this month. The Russian will reportedly spend every day and night at the factory to understand his car better. That begs the question: how ready is Sergey Sirotkin?
Sirotkin managed a lot of laps in Spain (354) but only managed the 16th overall place, which was still faster than Lance Stroll and Robert Kubica, but still not deemed good enough. So, how prepared does the Russian himself think he is?
"Certainly more prepared than it was two weeks ago, but of course we were hoping that we would be a little further. As for me, although I am a new driver in the field, the Formula 1 is not new to me. I think I gained a good impression of what to expect. We still have some conclusions to draw. But no one ever claimed or expected it to be easy. The challenge is big, but that's what makes it so exciting."
"I expect it won't be easy, both in qualifying and in the race. I expect that we can do our homework and answer many of the questions that are being asked."
The Russian also respects that it will not only be hard for himself, but that his team is going through a transition too.
"It is difficult for both sides, it is not an easy route," he explains, "I have never been there, so I will learn a lot of new things. And I'm sure it's the same for the team, it's a new car, quite different conditions, different track conditions, a lot more bumps, all of which makes it tricky."
