How Pirelli’s tyre choices could redefine race strategies in Brazil

Pirelli is set to bring a harder tyre compound to Interlagos this weekend compared to last season.
The choice will therefore mirror the compounds used for the 2023 edition, with teams planning their qualifying and race strategies around the C2, C3, and C4 tyres.
Rain might once again be a key factor at Interlagos, as demonstrated last year when drivers spent the bulk of the race on intermediate tyres.
The José Carlos Pace Circuit also poses a challenge in terms of tyre degradation, often putting the rear tyres to the test with persistent graining. However, the track has recently been resurfaced, making it less abrasive than in previous years, though some bumps still remain a factor to consider.

Pirelli also explained that the step up to a harder tyre compared to last year “could thus extend the performance life of the tyres, which are already more resistant to degradation than the 2024 range. That might allow the Soft to come into play, which last year was only used for Sprint qualifying.”

What time does the 2025 Brazil GP start?

After a thrilling weekend in Mexico, Formula 1 now heads to Interlagos with a shake-up at the top of the drivers’ standings. Lando Norris stormed to a dominant victory at the Hermanos Rodríguez circuit, finishing a remarkable 30 seconds clear of Charles Leclerc — the widest winning margin of the season so far.
Meanwhile, Oscar Piastri endured another challenging race, finishing off the podium and losing the championship lead, with Max Verstappen steadily closing the gap.
