Honda have come a long way in a few years, going from trundling at the back with McLaren to scoring their first podium in over a decade with Red Bull.
However, the Japanese manufacturer knows that there is still a way to go before they can properly challenge Mercedes, the dominant team in F1 right now.
Honda’s F1 technical director, Toyoharu Tanabe has said that they are trying to rectify the situation and close the gap even further.
"It was good to finish third in the season opener in Australia, our first podium finish since 2008," he said.
"However, we saw a clear performance gap to the winning team both in qualifying and the race, therefore as soon as we returned to our facilities in the UK and Japan, we began a detailed analysis of all the data we gathered from our four cars in Melbourne and continued our PU development work for this weekend and further races."
