Lewis Hamilton has revealed he will wear a special Ayrton Senna–themed helmet to celebrate his first Brazilian GP as a Ferrari driver.
"I always wondered what it would be like if Ayrton was in a Ferrari"
- Lewis Hamilton
Speaking to GQ Globo ahead of the Interlagos weekend — historically one of the most special for the seven-time world champion — he said: "It's a strange feeling, because I remember growing up watching Ayrton and, like everyone else, I always wondered what it would be like if Ayrton was in a Ferrari.
"Now, for the first time, you will see a helmet with the Brazilian flag running through São Paulo in a Ferrari. I hope to make the people here proud, as well as Senna and his family."
The Briton has always had a special connection with Brazil and its fans, and over time the Interlagos race has become almost like a second home Grand Prix — something he didn’t miss the chance to highlight once again.

Hamilton explained: "My first time here was already a great emotion. That's when I felt closer to Ayrton. I always saw him in movies and on TV as a kid. So finally being in his country was something special.
"When I come here, I am always very well received. It is very special to come to São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro. It is really a beautiful country, with incredible people. I meet many Brazilians around the world, and the passion they have for their country is beautiful to see."
Hamilton will now have the chance not only to return to one of his favourite stops on the calendar but to do so wearing red: “Hopefully, with all the difficult times we've had this year, all of that has prepared us for this weekend.”

When Hamilton put on an iconic show in Interlagos to pay tribute to Senna

A year ago at Interlagos, Hamilton thrilled the Brazilian fans by taking to the track in one of Ayrton Senna’s most legendary McLaren cars.
The seven-time world champion drove the historic McLaren MP4/5B — the very car in which Senna secured the second of his four World Championship titles back in 1990.
Hamilton hit the wet track shortly before the race as part of the “Senna Sempre” tribute, marking 30 years since the passing of the three-time world champion, who tragically lost his life at Imola on May 1, 1994.
