Haas F1 has decided to reshuffle the deck that is their pit crew for the Bahrain Grand Prix after the massive blunder in Melbourne that caused both cars to retire.
The team initially blamed the meltdown on a lack of practice, but the Americans have now decided that a fail-safe is needed in order for this to never happen again.
One of the wheel-gunmen has been allocated to a different position, and an extra person will be assigned to override the automatic release system should something go wrong again.
“We swapped a few positions, and the main reason is not that they did the mistake, but getting their confidence back," team boss Guenther Steiner said on the matter.
“We put an additional person in so that if it isn’t caught we can stop the car, push it back and put it right.”
Steiner added that the extra person, who will act as a fail-safe, will be in contact with the driver. He will instruct the drivers to stop the car if there's a problem that comes up that hadn't been spotted before the car pulled away from the pitlane.
