Australia GP for two more years on F1 calendar

The Australian Grand Prix will remain on the Formula One calendar for the next 15 years, reports The Age. The organisers already had a contract with the motorsport class until 2035, but two more seasons have been added.

The race weekend in Saudi Arabia was the reason why the two sides met. Indeed, the original deal stated that the inaugural races would be held in Australia in 2024 and 2025. However, due to Ramadan, the Middle Eastern country made the request to take on this role in 2024.

Since the first race of the season provides commercial benefits, Formula 1 decided to enter into talks with the Australian organisation. The GP of Australia then not only managed to get an extra two years, but also gets to host at least four opening races through 2037.

The first Formula 1 race in Australia took place in 1986, when Keke Rosberg ran away with victory. Michael Schumacher is still the record holder at the circuit with four wins. Max Verstappen never managed to win the race weekend, while Lewis Hamilton only took the top prize twice.
