Pierre Gasly has admitted that he is 'not happy' after his late qualifying spin. The Alpine driver's scary moment affected running in the late stages of Q3. The Frenchman spun 720 degrees coming off the final corner in the late stages of qualifying. Earlier in the weekend, both Isack Hadjar and Max Verstappen spun at the same spot, as it took another victim in Gasly.
Due to his spin, yellow flags interrupted the crucial final runs for certain drivers, including
Oscar Piastri.Max Verstappen also abandoned his final qualifying run. The four-time world champion starts Sunday's
Austrian Grand Prix from seventh place on the grid.
Gasly left disappointed after late spin in Spielberg
"I think I was pushing a lot and I made a mistake," Gasly explained to GPblog and other media present in the paddock.
"I felt like I had a bit of time to get in that last corner after my lap in Q2. I went for it, and unfortunately, when I turned in, I didn't manage to rotate the car the way I wanted, so I didn't get the apex the way I wanted.
Gasly starts the Austrian Grand Prix from 10th place
"I went on the power, tried to turn the car, so yeah, not happy about it." The Frenchman will start the race from 10th place after reaching Q3.
There were still some positives for the Frenchman, however. "On the other side, still happy about the rest of the qualifying because after all the practices we didn't look in a very strong place and I must say Q1 to Q2 we really managed to put some strong laps together.
"So yeah, still some positives I think. Ultimately, I think I was pushing very hard to get there, and it cost me at the end."
The Austrian Grand Prix starts in just a few hours, and second-placed starter Charles Leclerc explained that he will do everything to take Ferrari's first victory of 2025.
