Gasly realistic: 'You need the car for that'

Pierre Gasly experienced an excellent season at AlphaTauri in 2021. He then hoped for a second chance at Red Bull Racing, for whom he also drove before, but that team chose Sergio Perez. The Frenchman still balks at that decision.

The driver showed a lot of talent last racing year. Gasly seemed to be ready for a step up, but no top team decided to take him up. It means that Gasly will continue to race at AlphaTauri for one more season and must manage to get the most out of the car there.

With the new regulations, it also seems possible for AlphaTauri to make big steps forward and penetrate further into the subtop, but Gasly doesn't seem to agree to that for more than a season. He then hopes to still get a second chance at a top team, he told France's 20 Minutes.

"I'm not in Formula 1 to be satisfied with top ten or top five," Gasly stressed in the interview. "Victories, poles, championships are the only reason why I work so hard in Formula One. And you need the car for that." Last season he finished ninth in the world championship.
