A hectic qualifying session at Imola for the 2025 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was marked by high drama and costly errors, with two red flags interrupting the session due to major crashes. After an incredibly exciting qualifying session, full of chaos, Oscar Piastri secured pole, just ahead of Max Verstappen in P2.
The first stoppage came in Q1 when chaos unfolded as
Tsnudoa lost control through Turn 5, slamming into the barriers and bringing the session to a halt. Just as momentum was being rebuilt in Q2, another heavy
crash by Colapinto in the second sector forced the stewards to wave the red flags once more, adding further delay and tension.
In the end Verstappen was only three hundredths behind Piastri. An honourable mention for George Russell, who managed to secure third place on the medium tyres.
In the first run, Verstappen was still in P1, but Piastri managed to duck just below him in the second round of Q3.
A disappointment for Norris: due to Mercedes' gamble, the medium tyre, Norris drops back to fourth place. Full qualifying results in Imola
