Force India has been rather underwhelming this season, as last two seasons' number four is struggling with what their technical director Andy Green calls a "fundamental issue".
The Indian team based in Silverstone have led the charge in the midfield for two years in a row on a famously small budget, but haven't looked up to speed yet during the current season. Andy Green says that the team found out that something was wrong between Barcelona and Melbourne.
"We were a bit dubious about the data we were receiving, whether it was real or not, and then we needed to perform more tests on the car and some additional logging on the car, instrumentation, to see if it was a real phenomenon or not.
"Everything we have seen so far suggests it is real, so we have been attacking it to try to instigate a change, but to no effect."
The problem is in the rear-load, but without entering into too much detail, Green already has his eyes set on a major update that should help the team in a big way.
"I am hoping we will have something that will attack it head-on Barcelona time," Green said.
That would mean another month-plus of waiting, which could mean that the team will be too far behind to catch up and reclaim the fourth position in the constructors' championship.
"With a clean sheet of paper we could probably solve it straight away, but we don't have a clean sheet of paper, we already have a car that exists."
