The first safety car of the Chinese Grand Prix was caused by Lance Stroll.
The Canadian driver had to park his Aston Martin in Turn 2 at the Shanghai International Circuit. As a result, on Lap 10, the Safety Car was called out, right after Max Verstappen made his first pit stop.
Unlike in Australia, together with the two Mercedes, the two Ferrari drivers also entered the pit lane to get a fresh set of soft tyres.
Franco Colapinto and Esteban Ocon decided against pitting at the front, as they got up to second and third place respectively.
