FIA takes action against online hate in F1: 'Persistent toxicity'

The FIA and the FIM are joining forces and will try to fight online hatred in the world of cars and motorsport. The signing of the contract took place at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit on the weekend of the Belgian Grand Prix.

The FIA is in advanced talks with the IOC and FIFA, along with representatives of the governing bodies of athletics, rugby, and several other sports. The campaign is also supported by Prince Albert of Monaco, the governments of Malaysia and Spain, the UK trade minister and the prime minister of Slovenia, among others. So says the FIA in a message they put out themselves.

FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem also gave his thoughts on this issue. "Sustained toxicity has reached deplorable levels, and we must take collaborative action. Only through collaborative action can we bring about behavioural and regulatory change," he said.

FIM man Jorge Viegas also believes online hate speech must stop. "Together, we must do everything possible to promote a transparent, positive sports environment to change attitudes and tackle hate speech and online abuse in sports," says the FIM president.
