The stewards are now busy with the first on-track incident of the Belgian Grand Prix weekend. Carlos Sainz is under investigation for crossing the line at the pit entry. Around the halfway point of the opening practice session for the Belgian Grand Prix, the
Williams driver crossed the white line at the pit entry.
The Williams driver initially looked set to enter the pit lane before abruptly turning left and returning to the track. Sainz said over the team radio that his manoeuvre was because of the gearbox.
The stewards then communicated that the incident will be investigated after the session, and summoned the Spanish driver. Sainz will have to appear in front of the stewards at 15:15 local time (14:15 GMT) today.
Sainz upsets Antonelli in FP1
Championship leader Kimi Antonelli was also unhappy with Sainz during FP1. The Italian was on a flying lap when he encountered the Williams driver ahead of him in Sector 3, forcing him to lift off.
Over the radio, the Mercedes driver commented: "Sainz, what an idiot!" The Spaniard is, however, not under investigation for that incident.
Hulkenberg also summoned by the stewards
The German Audi driver will have to report to the stewards at 15:30 local time (14:30 GMT). He is investigated for failing to slow under yellow flags in FP1.
