Ferrari will try out the new spec front wings which will come into action next season, aimed at making them simpler whilst also improving racing by making cars easier to follow.
Teams have been told by the FIA that they will not be given the chance to run the new wings in this weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but Ferrari have specially created a wing to test in practice so they can learn more about the new wings.
The wing Ferrari have designed is within the rules for this year, but is similar to the rules for 2019. It has smoother endplates, which is a key feature of the new wings.
Williams engineer Rob Smedley foresees better racing, but issued a warning that it will not solve every problem that Formula One has.
He said: "You have to accept that cars are difficult to follow - especially with this generation of cars and the amount of downforce that they generate.

"It will be a little bit better, it will go in the right direction, but we'll all iterate to solutions to get us back to where we are in about six months."
