After a jam-packed FP1 session where Lewis Hamilton ended up lower than where he, and many fans, may have liked, Ferrari Team Principal Frederic Vasseur weighed in on what he thought about Hamilton’s results.
In the press conference after the first practice session for the Australian Grand Prix (and also the first one of the season), Vasseur was asked how long he thought it would take for Hamilton to get up to his teammate, Charles Leclerc’s speed. Throughout the seven years of his Formula 1 career, Leclerc has yet to be beaten by a teammate, including former world champion Sebastian Vettel.

Hamilton's First Session

Vasseur replied, “I don't know what I have to answer more than what I did before.”
Hamilton ended FP1 in 12th place with a laptime of 1:18.071. He was able to complete 20 laps.

He continued, “He's in this process [of adjusting]. Honestly, you can't draw a conclusion after the first session.” This is Hamilton’s third team change overall after moving from his long-term team, Mercedes.
Vasseur concluded, “I have absolutely no doubt that he will be able to perform, and to perform soon. Last year, I remember Carlos was P8 or P9 in free practice and he won the race.”
Hamilton has been on pole eight times and has won twice at Albert Park. He now races with Ferrari, the team with the most wins in Australia. Can the duo come together for another win down under?
