Ferrari chief issues statement on Vasseur amid recent Horner links

Ferrari chairman John Elkann has voiced his backing for Fred Vasseur amid recent speculations surrounding his future at the team.

“I want to express our full confidence in our Team Principal, Fred Vasseur.”

The 49-year-old, who issued a statement on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) in Washington, reiterated his confidence in the Ferrari team principal. Elkann also affirmed the importance of the team maintaining its focus amid the swirling speculations.

“I want to express our full confidence in our Team Principal, Fred Vasseur, and in the work he is carrying out together with all our colleagues at Scuderia Ferrari — the mechanics, engineers, and drivers competing this weekend in Austin.”

“I also want to reaffirm the importance of teamwork by everyone to maintain focus on the only goal that matters: always giving our very best on the track.”

The leadership of the Ferrari team has been in the crosshairs of rumours lately, with speculations linking former Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner with the possibility of replacing Vasseur. Talks of several key personalities within the team being at loggerheads have also surfaced in the lead-up to the United States Grand Prix.

Hamilton shuts down Horner-Ferrari links

Earlier, Lewis Hamilton shut down the talks linking Horner to the Scuderia Ferrari outfit. The British driver, who addressed the speculations during media day of the United States Grand Prix, stressed that he wasn’t interested in entertaining rumours.

The words of the seven-time F1 champion were also echoed by teammate Charles Leclerc, who was quick to downplay talks of the former Red Bull boss joining the Maranello-based outfit.
