Max Verstappen won the Italian Grand Prix in dominant fashion, receving praises from colleagues, pundits and fans alike. Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur, has also commended the Red Bull Racing driver.
Ferrari seemed on point to take a strong result at their home race with a particularly dominant outing in FP1 where they were over half a second faster than Verstappen.
Nevertheless, the Scuderia's car's flaws would become apparent during FP2 and would mar the rest of their weekend. As Verstappen took pole position ahead of both McLarens, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton would go on to secure P4 and P5. The Briton's result however, would not stand as he would be demoted to P10 following the enforcement of a 5-place grid drop penalty carried over from the Dutch Grand Prix.
On Sunday, Verstappen battled McLaren driver Lando Norris at the start. With the Briton committing to the inside line despite momentarily running with two wheels on the grass, the Dutchman cut the first chicane and retained the lead.
The Red Bull pitwall then instructed their driver to give the position back in an attempt to avoid a time penalty, which for a moment, put his eventual victory at risk.

Vasseur lauds Verstappen over Italian GP win

However, the Dutchman was able to regain the lead of the race with a bold overtaking manoeuvre on the outside of Norris at the same spot where he cut the corner earlier. From there on, Verstappen stretched his legs in his RB21 and soared to his third win this season, and his third win at Monza in the last four years.
After the race Vasseur offered his take on Verstappen's drive on Sunday afternoon at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, highñighting the Dutchman's performance both in qualifying as well as during the race.
"Max was outstanding," he told GPblog. "From the quali, from the first lap to the last lap [of the race] he was there. He was flying and he was much faster than us."
On Thursday Verstappen revealed he would not turn down a potential move to Ferrari, but did clarify that such a switch would only happen under the right conditions.
