Ferrari escape after mistake: FIA does not intervene after all

There will be no penalty for Ferrari's blunder at the Monza circuit. Despite a warning from the FIA and breaking the rules in Q1, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will not receive a grid penalty for the Italian Grand Prix.

The FIA was still so clear prior to qualifying: drivers were not allowed to drive unnecessarily slow during qualifying. By doing so, the FIA wanted to prevent chaos on the track, as happened earlier this weekend during Formula 2 qualifying.

After Q1 at the Monza circuit, Ferrari seemed to have gone completely wrong. Indeed, the FIA reported Leclerc and Sainz had both driven too slow and above the maximum time limit. The drivers would have been investigated after the session. A grid penalty would have been the most logical punishment in that case, if the FIA had wanted to intervene.

Even before Sainz could get out of his car jubilantly, however, the stewards had already made their decision: no further investigation into the Ferrari's. As the decision was made so quickly, the Tifosi can feel more at ease.
