George Russell has closed the gap to teammate Kimi Antonelli to just 25 points at the top of the standings, after the Italian suffered late misfortune which cost him a likely British Grand Prix victory.
Antonelli was closing up to Charles Leclerc on much fresher tyres only to suffer damage running over a kerb and finished in 16th, after he was demoted from ninth for a five second penalty.
The Italian's chances of points were ended by Max Verstappen who suffered a late spin into retirement, with the race finishing behind a safety car.
Lewis Hamilton, who finished third, is seven points further back on Russell and 32 off Antonelli. Leclerc's victory moves him to 39 points behind his teammate in fourth in the championship.
Lando Norris drops behind Leclerc to fifth, while Max Verstappen stays seventh after both he and Oscar Piastri failed to score points. The Dutchman was on for a third place finish before a late spin brought the safety car out which concluded the race.
