Formula 1 drivers sometimes seem far out of our reach, living the lives of glamourous racing drivers, always in the spotlight, traveling the world and such. But they are still susceptible to the downsides of society, as one of them was robbed and nearly had to miss the Canadian Grand Prix altogether.

Bortoleto, victim of theft, almost has to skip Canadian GP

Earlier this week, Sauber driver Gabriel Bortoleto was out and about in Switzerland when the incident took place. As he enjoyed his time in a restaurant having dinner, a delinquent did the deed: Broke into the car and stole the Brazilian's backpack.
Among the contents of his backpack was his passport, a document without which making the trip to Canada to race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve this weekend would've been impossible.
To Brazilian media, Bortoleto explained: “I had gone to dinner one day in Switzerland and they ended up opening the car and taking my backpack. I had my passports, everything inside, my computer, all my running gear."

The story, however, did reach a happy ending. For Bortoleto that is.
“It was chaos, but we managed to find the guy. Everything worked out in the end, I have my passports. We didn’t find everything, but we did find some things.”
