Robert Doornbos was criticised by Jos Verstappen for his statements regarding the exit clauses in Max Verstappen's contract. The Dutch pundit has subsequently responded to F1 world champion's father.
Doornbos spoke about the exit clauses in Max Verstappen's contract stating that if Red Bull Racing is not in the top three in the constructors' standings, Verstappen can leave. The former F1 driver then came to the sharp conclusion that Verstappen would leave at the end of the season.
Jos Verstappen was not pleased with this statement and responded on Instagram: 'Doornbos talks nonsense.'

Doornbos stands by his statements

In turn, Doornbos responded to this accusation. The former Red Bull Racing driver stands by his statements. "Well, I'm very pleased he watches our podcast, the Pit Talk powered by Ethara, so that means he keeps up with our analysis and the goals we discuss," Doornbos began in the aforementioned podcast.
Jos Verstappen, however, did not respond to the Pit Talk podcast, but to the segment in the Ziggo Sport Race Café.
Verstappen Sr.'s reaction made Doornbos even more convinced of his story. "It was about the future of Max Verstappen at Red Bull Racing, or better said the future of Max Verstappen at Mercedes. Where there's smoke, there's fire. And I know Jos very well over the years, and if he gets so agitated, it means that I am very close to the truth."
The former F1 driver indicated not only to get his information from Jos but also from other sources within the Austrian team. "He will not be on my Christmas card, nor will we go on vacation together, but we know each other professionally quite well. I have him as a source, but I also have many other sources at Red Bull. So, I know a bit about what's happening behind the scenes."
