De Vries reacts to Williams rumours: 'I read that rumour too'

George Russell could leave Williams after this season for a place with Mercedes, so the team is looking for a new driver in preparation. The name of Nyck de Vries is mentioned regularly, although the Dutchman does not want to say if he is interested.

The driver is competing in Formula E this season and is doing very well in that sport. De Vries conquered both Saturday and Sunday the second place in the race, putting him on top in the world championship. The talented driver, therefore, seems ready for a new step in his career by moving to Formula 1.

It did not surprise De Vries when he was asked how he would view a transition. Autosport.com Wolff about his views on a move to Williams. "I read that rumour too, and it was probably as much as a surprise to you as for me. I'm very happy with Mercedes and Formula E, and this is where I want to be succeeding. Whatever happens in the longer or mid-term future, I don't know."

Russell could serve as a replacement for Valtteri Bottas. Team boss Toto Wolff previously stated that he will not make the final decision until the summer break.
