Former F1 driver and British legend David Coulthard sees many similarities between himself and Valtteri Bottas. According to Coulthard, the 'second fiddle' at Mercedes doesn't need to be ashamed of himself.
Coulthard drove very well through his career but never won the title. During his 247 races, he came 1st in just 13 events. During his time at McLaren, he drove alongside Mika Hakkinen who was always ahead of the Scot.
"Lewis is unprecedented in qualifying, just like Michael Schumacher and Mika Hakkinen were. Your position on the track means everything because nothing is impossible at the front. Moreover, they drove much more consistently than I did."
"Valtteri can drive great, but he drives next to Lewis who is an exceptional driver. It's all about the exceptional talents in Formula 1 and just being good is not enough anymore," according to Coulthard in starting Grid podcast.
