Circuit Zandvoort has Grade One license for Formula 1 race in 2021

It is official; Circuit Zandvoort has been definitively approved to organize a Formula 1 race in 2021. The circuit has received the Grade One license, which is necessary to organize a Grand Prix. This was announced today by circuit director Robert van Overdijk during a press release on the circuit, in the presence of GPblog.com.

Circuit Zandvoort underwent a major renovation recently, with several corners - including the Arie Luyendijk curve and the Hugenholtz curve - being renewed. Originally, the FIA officials would travel to Zandvoort early this year to inspect the track, so that the first Dutch Grand Prix since 1985 could be held in May. However, due to the corona crisis, the race has been postponed to next year. Also the officials were not allowed to travel anymore, so the judging was postponed. Van Overdijk was not worried. He described the inspection as a formality. "We don't expect anything special about it," he said earlier this year.

A new date for the Dutch Grand Prix is expected at the end of this year. Later today the new name of Circuit Zandvoort will also be announced.
