The authorities in Catalonia have officially given the go-ahead for contract negotiations between Formula 1 and the managers of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya concerning the organisation of a Grand Prix in 2021. It is now almost certain that the circuit will host another GP in next year’s season.
“The Government has authorised the company Circuits de Catalunya SL to sign with the company Formula One World Championship Limited (FOWC) the renewal of the contract for the organisation of the Spanish F1 Grand Prix for the year 2021," a Twitter statement by the Catalonia government reads.

31 Consecutive editions

Since the construction of the circuit in 1991, a Formula 1 race has been organised there every year. While it was planned for May this year, the changed calendar had the GP held in mid-August.
“The signature guarantees the celebration of the 31st consecutive edition of this event at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, in Montmeló,” states the Government of Catalonia, as quoted by Motorsportweek.com. “Its continuity will also make it possible to maintain the presence of the circuit in the calendar of the main national and international motor competitions.”
