Former F1 driver Martin Brundle has thrown huge amounts of praise in Oscar Piastri's direction, calling the Australian "incredibly impressive" and saying he looks like "championship material".
Four out of the six races that have taken place so far in the 2025 Formula 1 season have been won by Piastri, with many of them coming by way of clinical and well-executed racecraft, seeing him jump up to lead the world championship with 131 points, 16 ahead of teammate Lando Norris in P2.
It's not just Brundle having his say about the Australian's fine start to 2025, with 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve also commenting on Piastri.
According to the Canadian, the 24-year-old is "the golden child right now”, going on to say that if the FIA were to make decisions during the race, Piastri "won’t be given penalties as easily as Max Verstappen is."

Brundle on possible world champion Piastri

But unlike Villeneuve, F1 pundit Brundle sees the Australian grown into his McLaren seat in what is just Piastri's third year in the pinnacle of motorsport.
"He's won four of the last six and is just looking like absolute world championship material. I think his rate of improvement has been pretty mighty, and he picks things up really quickly," Brundle shared as he spoke on Sky Sports' 'The F1 Show' podcast.
"Towards the end of last year, I think we saw this kind of potential. Did I expect it to arrive in such style so quickly? Probably no, I didn't," continued the Brit.
That racecraft that has guided Piastri to some of his wins this season is something Brundle also touts as a reason why he is futher ahead than the rest of the grid, including his teammate.
"He's just winning, winning, winning, and he looks so confident about it, and he's so unflustered about anything and everything. He's just got it there. I think his racecraft is a touch stronger than Lando's," concluded Brundle.
