Brown on dominant Red Bull: 'It's Red Bull and everybody else'

McLaren is having an incredibly poor start to the 2023 season. The team already indicated that they did not have the car they wanted to start the season with until Baku, but even that car proved far from fast in Miami.

In Baku, where McLaren introduced a major upgrade, the British team performed reasonably well. Both drivers reached Q3, but in the end only Lando Norris scored points with his ninth position. In Miami, the speed of Baku had already disappeared, as here neither McLaren driver managed to reach Q2. In the race in the United States, McLaren did not get beyond seventeenth place.

That McLaren would start the season poorly was expected within the British team, but even after the major upgrade in Baku, the team disappointed. Zak Brown thinks this is partly because the teams are so incredibly close to each other, apart from Red Bull Racing.

"We have some catching up to do. It's unbelievably tight. You used to have a front, mid and backfield. There's no longer a backfield. And really, I wouldn't even say it's the big four. It's Red Bull and kind of everybody else," Mclaren's CEO said atthe press conference in Miami on Friday.
