Sauber F1 have surprised British F3 racer Billy Monget by giving him a test drive in an F1 car at Rockingham Circuit today.
Monger lost both his lower legs in a horrifying crash in Formula 4 last year and races in British F3 using specially-designed hand controls.
The 19-year old was unaware of the test until he was surprised by Heritage F1, a historic F1 car supplier.
The Sauber C30 from 2011 has been adapted with hand controls for Monger to drive. He uses hand controls for the throttle and clutch, but still uses a pedal for his brake.
The Sauber C30 finished seventh in the 2011 standings in Sergio Perez’s debut season.
