Former F1 driver Gerhard Berger has said it "remains to be seen" how Laurent Mekies will fare after becoming Red Bull Racing's new CEO and team principal.
The Frenchman came into these roles after the seismic news of Christian Horner's firing from the Austrian team after 20 years in charge.
Horner took Red Bull from sporadic points scorers to world championship winners, with eight drivers' titles and six constructors' titles taken back to their Milton Keynes factory.
However, the British team boss was relieved of his duties after a challenging 18 months, including a drop in form from the Austrian team, along with internal debates throughout the top team.

Mekies moves to the front of the grid

Now, Mekies will make the move from Racing Bulls team boss to become the leading man at Red Bull, taking on he mammoth role in a huge change to his own career.
Berger has worked with Mekies in the past, and the Austrian knows what Red Bull is getting, while speaking to Kronen Zeitung: "Indeed, I have dealt with Laurent before. He was already involved with me at Ferrari, I worked with him at Toro Rosso, and even at the FIA. He is a congenial, nice guy with a lot of quality when it comes to leading people."
"He has a good style and knows Formula 1 very well, having been active in various roles. Whether he also has the 'killer instinct' needed at such a big team when you are at the top – that remains to be seen. But I think Mekies is a good choice for Red Bull Racing."

Future of Verstappen at Red Bull uncertain

Although Horner has been relieved of his duties, and that seemed important for Verstappen's future, it is still uncertain what Verstappen's future looks like. The Dutchman was seen in Sardinia, where Toto Wolff was also said to be, with rumours going around that the two of them had met. However, GPblog reported yesterday that this was not the case. Therefore, it remains a matter of guessing and speculation as to what Verstappen's future will look like.
