Australian Grand Prix in 2023 likely to be fastest ever

In 2022, Melbourne had the necessary modifications to the track, which had made it much faster. No further modifications have been made to the track for the 2023 edition but this year's Grand Prix is expected to be the fastest ever run in Australia.

It was already announced, but since Wednesday afternoon Australian time, it is official: there will be four DRS zones in Melbourne for the first time. No other circuit in the world has as many DRS zones. The new DRS zone is on the flat-out section between corners six and 11. So, as the cars have continued to evolve and with the added ability to generate more top speed, chances are that never before has a Grand Prix in Australia been so fast.

During free practice in 2022, this DRS zone was also introduced, but it proved short-lived. After complaints from Fernando Alonso, the zone was removed even before qualifying. This year, the fourth DRS zone is back. Meanwhile, Alonso is curious to see what it will be like to go around this stretch of track at greater speeds.

The organisers expect over 420,000 spectators, spread over four days.
