Fernando Alonso says his decision on continuing in Formula 1 still depends on the current car regulations rather than Aston Martin's car itself, when asked about his future in the sport.
Alonso is yet to announce his decision on whether he will race for Aston Martin during the upcoming Formula 1 season. In an exclusive article, GPblog previously reported that the Spaniard had indeed made a decision about his future and that his partnership with Aston Martin would "simply" be extended, with an announcement expected during the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid, which will take place in two weeks' time.
Speaking about his next step, the Spaniard told this website, among others, in Monza: "It's not really about the car. I am and I will be professional and working at my 100% fighting for P15 or fighting for a podium. But for me, it's more about the regulations. Unfortunately, this is what it is. This is this is not the Formula 1 we grew up with, and this is not the Formula 1 that we all want, drivers, spectators.
"So, you know, we must change few things. It will not happen immediately. It will happen for the future, but I hope I can contribute somehow to the next set of regulations, and we go back to the real Formula 1."
Motivation for Alonso is not an issue. "I think until I'm 80 or 90, [I will be motivated]," he laughed.

Krack says Aston Martin is in no rush

Aston Martin's Chief Trackside Officer, Mike Krack, was also asked about Alonso's future in Italy. The Luxemburger said: "Well, the season starts in March, I think, so we have plenty of time, don't we? You start to be impatient.
"We're working on that. We're quite confident that we will find a good solution for everyone. And, yeah, with September, October, November ahead, it's not a problem. At least not for me yet."
