Fernando Alonso has admitted that the British Grand Prix will be a tough one for him, but the Spaniard still hopes to duplicate his performance from last weekend in Austria, when he managed to finish in P8.
The Spaniard had to start from the pitlane last weekend because of some last-minute adjustments from McLaren, but the two-time champion did very well to still finish within the points at the Red Bull Ring. He took advantage of the various cars in front of him dropping like flies, and before he knew it, he found himself in eighth after some excellent tyre-management from his part.
Now, it's time for his team McLaren's home race in Great Britain. Alonso knows that he might struggle at Silverstone, but he is still excited to compete at what is one of the oldest tracks in the F1.
"We managed to maximize everything we could in Austria to bring home some points and, although Silverstone is a difficult track, I hope we can put together what we have learned and do the same," he told Spanish newspaper AS.
"The support of the local fans will also give us an additional boost."
"It [Silverstone] is one of the best tracks of the year, it's a hugely exciting challenge for the driver and it has a lot of history that has made it one of the great classic events on the calendar, it has some of the best corners in the world and it's great when you do them well, and even more special when you can push lap after lap."
It remains to be seen whether Alonso can do much pushing with his McLaren, especially since his team principal got fired earlier today. It will be interesting to see what happens with the papaya orange cars this weekend. Will they suffer or thrive after Boullier's exit?
